SOUTH BEND, Ind. — A man is in jail after he led police on a pursuit through South Bend Friday night, eventually crashing into a house.
An Indiana State Police trooper was on patrol when he saw a car go by, driving north on Portage Avenue with two equipment violations around 9 p.m. Feb. 9.
According to ISP, the trooper attempted to stop the car at an intersection when the driver allegedly sped away, leading to a police pursuit.
ISP said the driver eventually ended up crashing into a parked car, causing it to cut across the 2000 block of Beverly Place into a wooden porch of a nearby house.
After the crash, the driver was taken to a local hospital to be medically cleared and submitted a chemical test. He was then taken into custody in a South Bend jail. ISP said the driver was drunk and driving with a suspended license at the time of the crash.
The suspect is preliminarily charged with resisting law enforcement, operating while intoxicated-prior, operating while intoxicated-endangerment, driving while suspended-prior and reckless driving.
