INDIANAPOLIS — A suspect has been convicted in the deadly shooting of a woman on Indy's northeast side nearly two years ago, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday.

Robert Reed Jr., of Indianapolis, was found guilty of murder after a two-day trial.

On Nov. 8, 2022, IMPD officers responded to the 3500 block of Blue Spruce Lane, near the intersection of 38th Street and North Sherman Drive, on reports of a person shot.

When they arrived, they found 59-year-old Sherry Wolfe lying on the sidewalk, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office said a witness told investigators she heard the two arguing and heard Wolfe call for help before hearing gunshots. The witness called 911 and tried to help Wolfe. She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, where she died two days later.

The witness then told investigators Reed was the shooter.

On Nov. 9, 2022, the Lawrence Police Department told IMPD that a family member of Reed's arrived at the station and said Reed was currently parked in the 4600 block of Richardt Avenue.

IMPD Violent Crimes Unit, with help from the Lawrence Police Department, found Reed, and he was taken into custody.

In an interview with detectives, authorities said Reed confessed to shooting Wolfe during an argument.

“A life was tragically taken too soon due to the escalation of intimate partner violence,” Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said. “Far too often, we see the consequences of domestic violence turning deadly when a firearm comes into the equation. If you or a loved one are experiencing intimate partner violence, know that there are resources and service providers in our community ready to support you and help you break the cycle.”
