INDIANAPOLIS — The man accused of killing a 15-year-old girl from Indianapolis remains in jail without bond.
Tevis Walker, 34, of Indianapolis, appeared in court Monday wearing a red prison jumpsuit and without an attorney present.
Judge James Osborn asked if Walker understood that he has a right to an attorney or be represented by a court-ordered attorney.
When Osborn asked if Walker had any questions, he said, "How can I get an attorney?"
Walker was arrested on a preliminary charge of murder. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office formally charged him with murder Wednesday.
Police said Walker shot and killed Janiya Carr and left her body in the woods behind a building at Carriage House East Apartments. According to court documents, Walker lived and worked there as a maintenance man.

Carr's mother, Demetria Brown, and other family members sat in the courtroom.
"I know he was watching my baby. Nobody can make me feel different," Brown said.
Brown was visibly emotional and frustrated.
"I just hurt for my baby because I can only imagine what he took her through in her last breath," Brown said.
Brown stood next to her family and attorney.
"We want to look at all counts of this. We are conducting our own investigation as private parties. We intend on holding anyone that had any relationships to this needless murder responsible," said Chet Cameron, attorney for Midwest Injury Lawyers.
Walker is due back in court Wednesday, when the judge is likely to set bond.
