Surveillance video shows aftermath of car driving into a group of people outside Indy bar

A man was killed when a car plowed into a group of people in the parking lot of a southwest Indianapolis business.

INDIANAPOLIS — Security video shows the aftermath of a car driving into a group of people in a parking lot outside a bar on the southwest side of Indianapolis early Saturday morning.

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. in the 5700 block of West Morris Street, near West Washington Street and Interstate 465.

When officers arrived, they found an adult male with traumatic injuries lying in the parking lot of a business. The man was taken to an area hospital by IEMS in critical condition where he later died from his injuries.

The owner says an argument happened inside, but it seemed to have deescalated.

He says the next thing he knew; a car was driving through his parking lot trying to hit people.

"When you hear whatever, it was that caused this person to drive into a group of people, it just saddens me," said Dr. Charles Harrison, the reverend at Barnes United Methodist Church.

Reverend Harrison says talking things out rather than resorting to violence is extremely important.

"You know, don't be prideful. Don't allow your anger to get the best of you, so you respond to a situation in the heat of the moment rather than counting to 10 and taking a deep breath," said Rev. Harrison.

Reverend Harrison says when someone is hurt or killed by the hands of another, more people are affected beyond the two people involved.

Reverend Dr. Charles Harrison speaks with 13News in the aftermath of an incident in which someone drove a car into a crowd of people, killing a man.

"We estimate at least 100 people are impacted by an act of violence that kills someone. That's the minimum amount of people, but sometimes it could literally be thousands," Explained Rev. Harrison.

But to sum it all up, Reverend Harrison says people need to think before they act.

IMPD says its investigators are still looking for the person who drove the SUV into the group of people.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
