Speedway PD: 28-year-old man found fatally shot in car; homicide investigation underway

Officers found the victim in a car with bullet holes near 10th Street and North Lynhurst Drive early Thursday morning.

SPEEDWAY, Ind. — Police in Speedway are investigating after a 28-year-old man was found fatally shot inside a car overnight.

Around 12:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, officers in the area of West 10th and North Norfolk streets, just west of North Lynhurst Drive, heard gunshots coming from the 1100 block of North Norfolk Street

The officers found a white car with multiple bullet holes in its passenger side and a man who had been shot inside. The victim was later pronounced dead at the scene, a Speedway Police Department spokesperson said in a statement.

The Marion County Coroner's Office later identified the man as 28-year-old Lawrence D-Marcus Echols III – Truitt.

The department is continuing to investigate the incident and said more information will be released when it becomes available. 

"There's also no immediate danger to the rest of the community," the spokesperson said. 

The Marion County Coroner's Office will identify the victim once family has been notified.
