The shooting happened around 11 p.m. Jan. 7 in the 2700 block of Barrington Avenue, near South Keystone Avenue and Prospect Street.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after a 19-year-old man was killed in a shooting on Indianapolis' near southeast side Sunday night.

Just before 11 p.m. Jan. 7, officers responded to a report of a person down in the street after shots were fired at an apartment complex in the 2700 block of Barrington Avenue, near South Keystone Avenue and Prospect Street.

Officers located a man who was shot and later pronounced dead.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 19-year-old Rondre Jackson.

IMPD Capt. Mark McCardia told 13News police had not identified any witnesses or suspects in the case. Shell casings were located at the scene.

"It's a horrible state of affairs. There's no reason for violence like this in the streets," McCardia said. "I think people are realizing there's too much crime in the streets, and it's their streets. It's not the police department's streets — it's all of our streets."

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Detective Douglas Swails at the IMPS Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or email Douglas.Swaits@indy.gov.
