SHERIFF: Jackson County jail escapee is back in custody

State police say an inmate escaped from the Jackson County Jail Friday.

UPDATED: The Jackson County Sheriff confirms that Daniel Coomer was taken into custody on Saturday. The FBI helped in the case, according to police.

BROWNSTOWN, Ind. (WTHR) - State police say an inmate escaped from the Jackson County Jail Friday and remains on the loose.

On Friday night, Daniel Coomer escaped from a holding cell area to the outdoor recreation area. According to police, he found the door that leads to the outside which was unlocked.

Police say Coomer escaped from the jail and fled on foot. He is described as a six-foot-tall, 230-pound white male with brown hair and blue eyes.

Around 11 p.m., the Sheriff's Department received a call about a residence break in. Police think it's possible Coomer broke in and stole clothing from the residence to change out of his jumpsuit.

The next morning, the Sheriff's Department received a stolen vehicle report the 3400 block South of CR 300 East. Officials suspect he could be in possession of the stolen vehicle which is a red 1993 Chevy C15 pickup truck. The truck is a single cab and has an Indiana license plate number of SXQ132.

Jail records show Coomer was being held on charges including auto theft and drugs.

If you spot him, police say you should call law enforcement immediately, but do not approach.

The Jackson County Jail is located in Brownstown, about 70 miles south of Indianapolis.
