JASPER COUNTY, Ind — A semi driver was shot while driving on Interstate 65 in northern Indiana Thursday.

State police were called to the 224-mile marker on a report of the shooting around 4:45 p.m., which is six miles south of the Roselawn/Demotte exit to State Road 10 in Jasper County

Early investigation shows the driver was traveling south on I-65 when he was shot. Troopers who responded to the scene administered first aid on what was described as a "life-threatening" injury until paramedics arrived.

The semi driver was flown by helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment in unknown condition.

The incident caused both directions of the interstate to be closed for several hours to allow the helicopter to land at the scene, then for detectives to investigate.

The suspect turned himself in on Saturday, March 30. He is now facing criminal recklessness and attempted murder charges.

Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity leading up to the shooting is asked to call Indiana State Police Det. Hamed at 219-696-6242 and leave a message with the ISP Lowell District post commander.
