INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man has been sentenced to 66 years in prison and two years on probation for the 2020 murder of 27-year-old Justus Hudson.

Rasheed Bass was found guilty of murder, felony murder, armed robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, and carrying a handgun without a license in June 2024.

Bass was sentenced Monday, Sept. 16.

Around 9 p.m. on Dec. 3, 2020, IMPD officers responded to a report of shots fired near Minnesota Street and State Avenue. Shortly after, there was another 911 call for a person shot on Harlan Street, just north of Minnesota Street.

Officers found Hudson in the passenger seat of a car after he had been shot.

Investigators learned the shooting happened at a nearby market.

According to witnesses, Hudson and Bass planned to meet each other. According to the prosecutor's office, investigators believe Hudson owed Bass money, and both men were driven to the meet-up location by other people.

When Bass got to the market, he allegedly told his driver to pull directly behind the car Hudson was in. Prosecutors said Bass approached Hudson on the passenger's side and opened the car door. The brief interaction escalated and ultimately resulted in Bass shooting Hudson in the chest.

Prosecutors said the driver of the car Hudson was in put the car in reverse, hit the car Bass was in and then called 911 for help.
