INDIANAPOLIS — At least five suspects have been identified after they filmed a rap music video inside of an east Indianapolis gas station just moments before allegedly shooting a man outside.
On Saturday, Feb. 17, IMPD officers responded to the 3300 block of North Shadeland Avenue, near East 34th Street, on a report of shots fired and a person shot around 10 p.m. When officers arrived, the victim from the shooting had already been taken to a local hospital by two others at the scene.
Court documents say officers located a car at the scene with windows shot out, bullet holes in the back and blood inside. Detectives later found out the victim had been shot inside of this car, but was taken out of it and transported to the hospital in a different vehicle.
During the investigation, IMPD detectives learned from witnesses that a group of people went inside the gas station at 9:55 p.m. to shoot a rap video, according to court documents.
According to court documents, one of the suspects asked an employee if they could film multiple different times. After the manager told them they could not film, they asked another employee, who let them film. Documents say that 10 to 15 other people entered and began filming the video and smoking.
An employee then asked them to leave and heard around 20 shots fired outside as they left. Security footage provided by the gas station showed the group filming their video inside, and as they begin to walk out, the shots can be heard.
Later in their investigation, detectives found the music video that was filmed on Feb. 17 in the gas station. In the video, the group can be seen flashing handguns while dancing around the store.
Using the video, detectives were able to identify the five suspects who allegedly fired guns, according to court documents. Four of those are facing charges.
Traniesah Fennell has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. Prosecutors charged Dejuan Jones, Elijah Davis and Nataniel Thompson with criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
