GREENCASTLE, Ind. (WTHR) — Police have arrested a correctional officer at the Putnamville Correctional Facility for having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.
Prison officials opened an investigation on 52-year-old Barbara Kapaun, 52 after receiving information that she was involved with one of the inmates. After the investigation, she was arrested Sunday and placed on emergency suspension pending criminal charges.
Kapaun is facing felony charges for official misconduct and sexual misconduct by a service provider.
"We have a zero-tolerance policy on this type of misconduct," said Internal Affairs Led Investigator James Smith. "We will arrest and seek prosecution against any employee who chooses to make these decisions."
The Putnam County Prosecutor's Office will determine final charges.
