Police seek public's help in search for suspect in deadly hit-and-run crash

Police say drivers who leave the scene of an accident face felony charges rather than a lesser charge if they had remained at the scene.

INDIANAPOLIS — A 21-year-old Indianapolis man is facing felony charges after police say he left the scene of a deadly hit-and-run crash.

Kasen Jackson died after the crash on Michigan Road Saturday night. In this recent arrest, the suspect's relative turned him in.

Police say drivers who leave the scene of an accident face felony charges rather than a lesser charge if they had remained at the scene.

The family of Alexandra Leal are still hoping the person who hit and killed her turn themselves in. It's been nearly one week since that incident happened on South Lynhurst Drive. Metro police said their hearts are with the families who've lost loved ones.

"Anything, as far as a vehicle color description, what you saw, where you saw it, all those things can help piece together an investigation and find people that are responsible for tragic accidents that we've seen," said an IMPD spokesperson.

Police are asking for the public's help finding a silver 2002-2006 Toyota Camry that struck Leal and left the scene.

According to Indy Pedestrian Safety Crisis, since January of this year, there have been 32 deaths involving either a pedestrian or a cyclist involved in hit-and-runs. In the last 30 days, there were 82 incidents.
