Police seek armed robbery, carjacking suspects in northwest side incidents

"I will shoot you if you don't do what I say," a gunman told one victim.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A woman is sharing her story about having been robbed at gunpoint, hoping to warn others to be vigilant.

Metro police are investigating the Wednesday hold-up at a northwest side Family Dollar store, where teens targeted the woman for carjacking.

The crime happened in broad daylight. Investigators say the man walked into the store and put down a playing card with the words "MONEY NOW" written on it. That's when he allegedly pulled out a handgun.

Police released a photo of the suspect Tuesday, saying he had dreadlocks and was wearing a coat with a large fur hood.

April Ferguson told police she was exiting her car to go into the store when a teenager put a gun to her stomach.

The suspect demanded the keys to her 2004 Chrysler 300.

"I will shoot you if you don't do what I say," the gunman is alleged to have told Ferguson.

With no way to escape and fearing injury, she handed over the keys. Her assailant then got the attention of a second teen nearby who also jumped in the car.

”My car wasn't worth my life, let it go," said Ferguson. "Don't argue. Give them what they need so they can go. You get what you need. I needed to be safe.”

No one was hurt.

There was another robbery at the same store on Thursday afternoon. A man robbed but not injured. Police said the suspect fled the store going east and was last seen entering a nearby apartment complex.
