Police investigating human remains found in Monroe County woods

​Police say the remains were discovered by a hiker on March 2 near the Monroe County Airport.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Police in Monroe County are investigating after human remains were discovered on March 2. 

According to a release from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, an investigation has been launched after officers discovered human skeletal remains in a wooded area near the Monroe County Airport. 

Police say the remains were discovered by a hiker. 

The Monroe County Coroner's Office, Monroe County Sheriff's Office and an anthropology team from the University of Indianapolis are working to identify the individual. 

Detectives say they have not found any evidence indicating foul play and are reviewing missing persons reports from the past year to help gather potential leads.
