INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Indianapolis Metro Police are investigating a deadly shooting on the west side of the city.

It happened on S. Whitcomb Avenue near W. Washington St. and S. Lyndhurst Dr.

Police say when they got to the home they found a man who had been shot. He was taken to the hospital.

As officers searched the area, they found another man that had been shot and killed. He was later identified as 22-year-old Davon Davis.

Police are investigating and have not said anything about any potential suspects.

“I'm guessing about 11 shots were fired,” said William Horner. The former Marine said before his recent move to the area, he used an online tool to search the type of crimes that happen in the area. Horner found nothing more serious than air conditioner thefts and other petty crimes.

He said he "hasn’t had any trouble at all" at his new home, but around 1 o'clock as he was outside in front of this house, someone next door started shooting as he retrieved his trash can from the curb.

“I started hearing shots," he said. "I ran back up to my porch because my legs will give me. I was trying to stay out of the way."

Metro officers found a man dead in the backyard next to Horner's house. Paramedics transported a second man hit by gunfire to the hospital.

Williams noticed his injuries following the shooting.

“He came out of the house with blood running down both his legs. He sat down and waited on the cops to get here,” said Horner. Fortunately, he was able to get out of harms way and avoid injury from the gunfire.

The South Whitcomb gunfire is the second double shooting in Indy in 24 hours.

IMPD detectives are in the process of trying to figure out who and why someone shot two men in their 20’s in a car near John Ed Park Thursday afternoon. The victims ended up crashing into a parked pick-up truck. Crime lab workers processed the scene, retrieving more than a dozen shell casings from the street.

IMPD Officer Genae Cook hopes witnesses in both cases will share what they know about the shootings.

“Gun violence is a big concern for us. It's not just a concern for us but also a concern for the community,” said Cook.
