INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after a man was critically injured in a shooting Thursday night on the city's northwest side.
Police responded to a report of a person shot in the 2000 block of Mayfair Drive, near Michigan Road and West 64th Street, around 10:30 p.m. June 6.
Officers arrived and found a man who had been shot. Medics took the gunshot victim to a hospital in critical condition.
An IMPD spokesperson said detectives don't believe the shooting happened where the victim was found, but they are still trying to determine where it took place.
"The people at this residence were awoken by this gentleman pounding on their back door, and they had no idea what was going on. He kept saying he had been shot," IMPD Capt. Don Weilhammer said. "They wisely – as we recommend – did not open their door and called 911 for emergency response."
Police have not shared information at this time about a possible suspect or motive.
Anyone with additional information on the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
