56-year-old man killed in early morning shooting on Indy's west side

The shooting was reported just before 3 a.m. Saturday in the 5500 block of Scarlet Drive, near West 34th Street and Moller Road.

INDIANAPOLIS — An investigation is underway after a shooting left a 56-year-old man dead on Indianapolis' west side early Saturday morning.

According to IMPD, just before 3 a.m. on Oct. 12, officers responded to the 5500 block of Scarlet Drive, which is near West 34th Street and Moller Road, on a report of a loud party.

When officers arrived, they were reportedly flagged down by a person who told police a man had been shot. Officers checked the area and found a man outside a garage with gunshot injuries. Medics arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene. 

The Marion County Coroner's Office later identified the man as 56-year-old Christopher Scott Rockingham. 

Police have not shared information about a possible suspect or motive at this time.
