Man dead in shooting on Indy's east side

Another victim was located a few blocks away with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. The person was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

INDIANAPOLIS — Metro police are investigating a fatal shooting on the city's east side.

It happened around 8 p.m. Sunday in the 3000 block of Forest Manor Avenue, which is just east of 30th Street & Sherman Drive.

The Marion County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as 49-year-old Vernon Williams.

Officers were called to the area on a report of a person shot. They found Williams, who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another victim, Jessica Galle, was located a few blocks away with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. Galle was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Homicide detectives announced Oct. 26, the arrest of 41-year-old James Griffie for his alleged involvement in the killing of Williams and the aggravated assault on Galle. Griffe was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, and battery by means of a deadly weapon
