EDINBURGH, Ind. — Two women are facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing from a mall before leading police on a high-speed chase while they had children in the car.
According to a release from the Edinburgh Police Department, on Friday, Aug. 3, officers attempted to stop a vehicle on U.S. 31 and Interstate 65 after a report that the people in the car had stolen items from the Indiana Premium Outlet Mall.
Instead of stopping for police, the car fled northbound on I-65, reaching speeds of 100 mph.
Multiple agencies assisted Edinburgh police with catching the suspects. Stop sticks were set up near mile marker 90, which is near the State Road 44 exit in Franklin. The stop sticks worked, and the suspects' vehicle was forced to pull over with two flat tires.
Police took two women, a 27-year-old and a 33-year-old, into custody. Two children were also found inside the car but were unharmed, according to police. The children, a 2-year-old and a 10-year-old, were released to a family member.
Edinburgh police said no one was injured in the incident.
The two women were arrested for multiple theft charges, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and child endangerment.
