1 man killed, another injured in shooting on Indy's northeast side

The shooting happened around 11 p.m. Monday near East 38th Street and North Sherman Drive.

INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating after one man was killed and a second was injured in a shooting on Indianapolis' northeast side late Monday.

An IMPD spokesperson said the shooting happened just before 11 p.m. March 25 in the 3800 block of Sherman Forest Lane, which is near East 38th Street and North Sherman Drive.

Officers responding to an initial report of shots fired located two men with apparent gunshot wounds. Both were taken to Eskenazi Hospital, one in critical condition and one described by police as "stable."

The man who had been critically injured was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, police said.

Tuesday morning, the Marion County Coroner's Office identified the man as 50-year-old Eric Spencer Parks.

"Preliminary information suggests there was some type of disagreement between individuals who knew each other that resulted in gunfire, and a third party was caught in the crossfire," an IMPD spokesperson said in a statement.

Police said there's no believe of an ongoing threat to the public regarding the incident.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Detective Kyle Hoover at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or email Kyle.Hoover@indy.gov. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
