Officers uncover 187 pounds of methamphetamine during Plainfield traffic stop

PLAINFIELD, Ind. — Police officers in Plainfield discovered a large stash of methamphetamine and fentanyl during a traffic stop on Interstate 70 this week.

The officers pulled over a passenger truck near the Plainfield exit on Tuesday, Oct. 22 after noticing the vehicle commit several infractions. Upon observing suspicious activity, the officers deployed K-9 Echo to inspect the vehicle.

Echo alerted to an odor of narcotics coming from the rear of the truck, at which time the officers searched the vehicle. 

That search uncovered a 50-gallon tote that contained multiple bags of suspected methamphetamine. The officers also found a cardboard box inside a black trash bag in the back of the truck. The box contained more suspected methamphetamine, as well as three packages of pressed fentanyl pills.

In all, the officers seized 187 pounds of methamphetamine and three pounds of fentanyl during the traffic stop.

Two men who were inside the truck were arrested and taken to the Hendricks County Jail on preliminary charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute a narcotic drug. 

The names of the men were not released by police and the investigation is ongoing.
