Plainfield man sentenced to 8 years in prison for string of armed robberies in Indy

Larry Gibson robbed three different Indianapolis businesses between Aug. 25 and Sept. 5, 2019.

INDIANAPOLIS — A 65-year-old man was sentenced to eight years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a string of armed robberies around Indianapolis.

According to court documents, Larry Gibson, of Plainfield, robbed three different Indianapolis businesses between Aug. 25 and Sept. 5, 2019.

The U.S. Department of Justice said Gibson robbed an OfficeMax on East Washington Street and stole $320 on Aug. 24. Four days later, he robbed a CVS on Southeastern Avenue and stole $115. On Sept. 5, the DOJ said Gibson robbed a Wendy's on Post Road and stole $276.

Gibson brandished what the employees believed to be a gun in each robbery and demanded cash, authorities said.

Gibson was arrested on Sept 6, 2019, and the DOJ said he admitted to committing each robbery.

When police searched Gibson's home, authorities said they found a toy gun that resembled a real one.

“Every person deserves to feel safe where they live and work. This defendant terrorized and threatened innocent employees and businesses for weeks," said Zachary A. Myers, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. “These frightening, senseless crimes have no place in our communities, and we are safer with this man behind federal prison bars. I am grateful to the FBI for ensuring that this criminal has been held accountable for his actions.”

The FBI and IMPD investigated this case.
