INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after a woman was struck and killed by a vehicle that fled the scene on Indy's northwest side Monday morning.

Around 6:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a person down in the 4000 block of North High School Road, near 38th Street.

When they arrived on scene, police found a woman who had been struck by a vehicle, but could not find the suspect vehicle that was responsible. She was confirmed dead on the scene by medics.

"It's happened all too often this year," said Tommy Thompson, a spokesperson for IMPD.

The road was shut down from Gateway Drive to Commons Drive for several hours during the investigation.

IMPD says there is no suspect information at this time.

This marks the 24th person killed in a hit-and-run crash this year out of 23 incidents.
