Child shot following armed robbery on Indy's northwest side

An IMPD police report shows that the robbery occurred outside a Planet Fitness, leading up to the shooting Sunday evening.

INDIANAPOLIS — A child is expected to recover after being shot following an armed robbery on the northwest side of Indianapolis Sunday evening.

Officers responded to Eskenazi Hospital for a report of a walk-in person shot Aug. 18.

Around 6:15 p.m., IMPD told 13News a man arrived at the hospital with a child who had been shot near the Planet Fitness on West 38th Street, near Moller Road.

It's unclear how old the child is, but officers said the child's condition is "stable."

According to a police report, an armed robbery occurred at the address of the Planet Fitness that led up to the shooting.

Police noted that this incident could be connected to another incident that happened 15 minutes after. There was another shots fired report near Rockville Road and South Mickley Avenue on the west side of Indianapolis. IMPD and Indiana State Police tracked that suspect to a home on West Morris Street, where he was arrested.

This incident is under investigation.
