INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after a teenager allegedly stole a vehicle and crashed it into another car, killing the driver, Tuesday morning on the city's southwest side.
Officers were responding to a report of a stolen vehicle around 8 a.m. Jan. 2 in the 7300 block of Camby Road, near Mendenhall Road, when they found the car and attempted to stop it. Police said the teenage driver fled and police did not pursue the vehicle.
Soon after, police said they found the same vehicle crashed near the 7900 block of Mann Road, which is about four miles southeast of where the vehicle was reported stolen.
According to IMPD, the 16-year-old driver crashed the stolen vehicle into another car, and the driver of that car was pronounced dead. The teenager was arrested Tuesday evening on preliminary charges including resisting law enforcement in a vehicle resulting in death and auto theft.
The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 34-year-old Julio Cervantes Ramirez.
Police said the area of the 7900 block of Mann Road was closed for several hours as police investigated.
