INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that happened on the city's west side Sunday night.

Police responded to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian around 8:35 p.m. May 5 in the 4100 block of West 30th Street, near Lafayette Road.

Officers arrived and found a man with trauma to his head and body. Medics transported him in critical condition to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the pedestrian as 58-year-old Mark Even Brown.

According to court documents, officers spoke with a witness, who said he saw a gray van hit Brown, who was cutting his grass at the time. The witness said the van then left the scene.

The witness told police he did a U-turn to try to chase the van, but the van was going too fast for him to keep up.

Court documents say officers talked with another witness, who said he saw the crash and followed the suspect van to the 2800 block of Corvallis Crescent, which is southeast from where the crash happened.

Detectives determined Brown was weed-eating along the curb on the north side of his yard when he was hit by the van.

Detectives then went to the home on Corvallis Crescent, where they spoke with 36-year-old Ariel Treminio-Lopez, of Indianapolis, who allegedly admitted to being the driver involved in the crash.

Court documents say Treminio-Lopez told detectives that he went to get a drink of a soda when the crash happened. Treminio-Lopez allegedly said he didn't stay at the scene because he was scared and went back to his house to get help.

Prosecutors charged Treminio-Lopez with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death or catastrophic injury and leaving the scene of an accident with moderate or serious bodily injury.

Anyone with additional information on the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
