1 person killed, 3 others injured in separate Indy shootings before noon on Thanksgiving

Police have yet to confirm if a man found dead in a courtyard near Shortridge Road was shot, but a resident told 13News that's what they believed.

INDIANAPOLIS — Residents at an apartment complex on the east side of Indianapolis woke up to crime scene tape and several police cruisers Thursday morning.

"I was walking to the store and I seen a dead body, you know what I'm saying, but I kept walking. You know what I mean? I didn't say nothing," said a man who was staying at Abbey Meadows Apartments.

Police say they found the body of a man around 8:30 a.m. in the apartment building's courtyard near Shortridge Road. There was a trail of blood leading to a unit inside the building.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the man as 34-year-old Ousman A. Gasama.

One resident believes the man was shot several hours before he was found.

"I was just up playing a game last night, and I thought I heard fireworks, but I guess it was two shots, and I heard a bunch of people running out the building," said a resident who did not want to give their name.

Just before 10 a.m., officers say another person was shot on Talbott Street, near Pennsylvania Street, on the near north side of Indianapolis. Police detained two people. As for their possible roles, that remains unclear, a spokesperson said.

IMPD later announced that officers are looking for a 27-year-old man for his alleged role in that shooting that sent the victim to a hospital in critical condition.

The other two shootings happened on opposite sides of the city Thursday morning. Police say they located a person who was shot sometime in the 8 a.m. hour on Walnut Meadow Drive on the city's far west side. A little more than an hour later, officers found another shooting victim on Shadeland Avenue on the east side. Both victims are in stable condition.

"I just want people to stop the violence and put the gun down man. It doesn't make any sense," said one of the residents from an earlier shooting.
