INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after two people were shot Tuesday night.
It happened around 9:10 p.m. near the intersection of Waldemere Avenue and West Washington Street on the southwest side.
When officers arrived on scene, they found two victims, a male and a female, who had been shot.
Wayne Township firefighters said the victims were in a vehicle that left the roadway and crashed into a Dollar Tree store.
The male victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition where he was later pronounced dead. Police do not believe the female victim's injuries are life-threatening.
This shooting was the start of a violent night in Indianapolis.
About an hour later, a shooting was reported on John Marshall Drive, near East 38th Street and North Mitthoeffer Road. Police said the victim of that shooting was in good condition.
Just minutes after that shooting, police responded to a shooting in the 3700 block of Sherman Forest Drive, just north of East 38th Street and North Sherman Drive. One victim from that shooting was found in stable condition. A short time later, a second victim that police believe is connected to the scene was dropped off at IU Health Methodist Hospital, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Around 12:30 a.m., a person was shot near East 42nd Street and North Post Road on the far east side. That victim was said to be in serious condition.
