NEW PALESTINE, Ind — A person is in custody after a police pursuit that began in Indianapolis Thursday afternoon ended in Hancock County.
According to a post on the New Palestine Police Department's Facebook page, their officers joined the chase as Indianapolis Metro Police officers pursued a car eastbound on U.S. Highway 52.
The post said New Palestine officers deployed a tire deflation device along the highway near County Road 500 West. The pursued vehicle struck the device, which caused all four of its tires to go flat, police said.
The pursuit ended a short time later, at Depot Street in New Pal, where an officer did a PIT maneuver on the suspect's vehicle.
One person was taken into custody without further incident, the post said, adding that officers discovered "illegal narcotics" and a shotgun in the car.
The department said they, out of an abundance of caution, asked school officials to place New Palestine High School on "safe secure status" as the chase ended.
No injuries were reported.
