NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WTHR) — Friday's active shooter incident at Noblesville West Middle School is the third central Indiana school shooting incident in the last seven years.
On March 25, 2011, then 16-year-old Michael Phelps shot 15-year-old Chance Jackson in the abdomen at Martinsville High School.
Jackson was critically injured.
Phelps pleaded guilty to attempted murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. He could be released in 2025.
In January 2016, a 15-year-old was shot in the leg outside Lawrence North high school's gym.
Police charged 17-year-old Paul Rayner, who opened fire outside the school.
Rayner was sentenced to eight years in prison.
