Murder charge filed in woman's death in Fountain Square church

Metro Police say murder charges have been filed in the November death of a woman found strangled and stabbed in a Fountain Square church.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Metro Police say murder charges have been filed in the November death of a woman found strangled and stabbed in a Fountain Square church.

Police say 57-year-old Robert Burks was charged for his alleged involvement in the death of Julie Morey at St. Patrick’s church in Fountain Square on Nov. 3, 2019.

Burks is currently in custody in Monroe County for theft and resisting arrest.

A woman identified as Julie Morey was found dead in the church that morning, and the Marion County Coroner's Office later determined she died by homicide.

Burks has not been transferred to Marion County to face the murder charge.

His previous criminal record includes arrests for theft, drug and driving-related charges.
