MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie father has been charged after his 3-year-old daughter reportedly swallowed his fentanyl.

According to recently released court documents, on Sunday, June 30, a 3-year-old girl arrived at IU Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. The girl's aunt told doctors she believed her niece swallowed some Tylenol.

The girl and her 25-year-old father, Devin Rollins, were reportedly staying with their aunt the previous night. Court documents say that Rollins woke up his aunt in the middle of the night to tell her that his daughter had possibly swallowed some Tylenol.

The aunt noted that the 3-year-old appeared lethargic, so she called Rollins' father as well as 911. The girl was rushed to the hospital. The aunt believed Rollins was at the hospital with his daughter, but the hospital said Rollins had never arrived at the hospital.

Court documents say that Rollins could not be located by officers or the Department of Child Services. Both officers and DCS reportedly made 19 unsuccessful attempts to reach Rollins and the mother of the child.

The 3-year-old's medical records eventually came back positive for fentanyl. That's when the aunt allegedly told DCS that Rollins had left her home before EMS arrived. The mother allegedly told DCS that Rollins called to tell her he woke up next to their daughter and noticed she was limp. Rollins allegedly did not tell his daughter's mother that he had left before EMS arrived nor did he tell her he was not with their daughter at the hospital.

Eventually, court documents say, Rollins was found in the 2100 block of West Main Street and brought in for questioning. Rollins allegedly told police he "just wanted to go to jail" and that his daughter was "fine."

Rollins also allegedly told police that he was experiencing withdrawal symptoms. When police asked him what substance he was suffering withdrawal from, he allegedly said "you already know what."

Court documents show that after being informed his daughter tested positive for fentanyl, Rollins told police he thought his daughter might have gotten into an old pill-crusher in his backpack.

Rollins also allegedly told police he left before EMS arrived because he knew police were coming and that he had warrants out for his arrest. He allegedly admitted to police he never visited his daughter in the hospital and that he had been running from his arrest warrants for the last five years.

According to online court records, Rollins has two warrants out for his arrest. One of the warrants stems from an August 2023 incident in which he is charged with neglect of a dependent, operating while intoxicated endangering a person less than 18 years old and operating a vehicle under the influence of a schedule I or II controlled substance.

The second arrest warrant shows Rollins was charged in January of neglect of a dependent by abandoning or cruelly confining the dependent.

In this incident, Rollins charged with neglect of a dependent.
