INDIANAPOLIS — Kevin Matheus, of Indianapolis, is charged with leaving the scene of a crash causing death, obstruction of justice and operating without a license.
IMPD says Matheus turned himself in Tuesday, Sept. 24. He is charged in the death of 23-year-old Kasen Jackson.
According to a release from IMPD, around 8:15 p.m. on Sept. 21, officers responded to the 5600 block of Michigan Road, near Kessler Boulevard West Drive on Indy's northwest side, on a report of a personal injury crash.
When officers arrived, they discovered the crash involved a motorcycle and another vehicle. Police say the motorcyclist, Jackson, sustained traumatic injuries and was transported to an area hospital by Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS). Unfortunately, shortly after Jackson's arrival at the hospital, he was pronounced dead.
On Sept. 24, an IMPD detective was contacted that a man, later identified as Matheus, and his uncle wanted to speak with the detective.
Matheus allegedly said he wanted to turn himself in because he didn't want his uncle to get in trouble. His phone was allegedly found at the scene.
His initial hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 26.
