KOKOMO, Ind. — The Kokomo Police Department has arrested five members of a group that has reportedly been behind a string of thefts during an attempted burglary.
According to Kokomo police, the department received intel on Nov. 28 that the South American Theft Group (SATG) was in Kokomo with the intent to commit a burglary. Detectives were informed the suspects were driving a white BMW with Illinois license plates and also a maroon-colored Mazda.
Detectives located the white BMW in the 600 block of South Jay Street and saw three men running toward the car in an attempt to flee from the scene of a burglary. After attempting to initiate a traffic stop on the BMW, the BMW quickly drove away causing a brief chase.
All four male occupants fled from the moving vehicle on foot, only for three of them to be apprehended shortly after. The fourth suspect was arrested after trying to escape in the maroon-colored Mazda.
The Kokomo Police Department says four men and one woman were arrested and charged with burglary, resisting law enforcement and corrupt business influence.
Kokomo police also say this is the 15th arrest of members of this group by the department this year. KPD has been working closely with numerous state and federal agencies to track down and arrest other members of the SATG.
