Man accused of scamming grieving Marion County families out of their homes

From March 2018 to May 2020, James Bleier II is accused of targeting families who recently lost a loved one.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Marion County Prosecutor's Office announced an indictment in an alleged real estate scam.

James Bleier II is facing 16 charges, including fraudulent or deceitful acts, theft, and forgery.

From March 2018 to May 2020, Bleier is accused of targeting families who recently lost a loved one. He is accused of using forgeries, a disguised $50,000 bank loan and fake documents to try and force the victims to sell their home.

“I commend the Marion County Grand Jury for treating this case with the dignity that it demands. The defendant’s alleged conduct is detestable, and we will fight to ensure the rights of the victims who were taken advantage of are restored and upheld,” Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said.

The prosecutor is concerned there might be other possible victims. If someone believes they might have been scammed by Bleier or know someone else who might have, the prosecutor is asking them to call the Marion County Grand Jury Division at 317-327-5600.
