INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man was sentenced to over 13 years in prison for the armed robbery of a gas station and shooting of an employee in 2022.
George Tracy, 21, was sentenced to 159 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release after he pleaded guilty to discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Wednesday.
According to court documents, Tracy robbed the Mobil gas station near Central Avenue and East 32nd Street on Indianapolis' near north side Nov. 22, 2022.
During the robbery, court documents state Tracy shot a gun three times in the direction of an employee and stole roughly $200. The final shot hit the employee in the left leg, sending them to the hospital.
After the shooting, Tracy told him, "Have a good day bro," the DOJ said.
The incident was captured on video surveillance. Officers searched his home, finding the gun used in the robbery and clothes he was wearing in the video.
“Our hearts go out to the victim of this senseless shooting, who will carry the scars and trauma from this vicious crime for the rest of their life,” Zachary A. Myers, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, said in a statement. “Armed, violent criminals like this man rob the entire community of our sense of safety and security in our workplaces."
The case was investigated by the FBI and IMPD.
