INDIANAPOLIS — A man was sentenced to 28 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by an illegal alien and using it to commit domestic violence.
According to court documents, Jose de Jesus Rodriguez-Soto, also known as Pedro Torres, 34, was arrested June 27, 2023 following a domestic violence call in an Indianapolis neighborhood near Eagledale.
Court documents show that the victim's daughter told police that Torres came into their home with a pump-action shotgun threatening to "kill them all."
When police arrived, they found Torres in his vehicle with the firearm. The suspect initially resisted officers, but court documents show his weapon was confiscated and he was arrested without incident.
The victim later told police that Torres had sent threatening text messages, including photos of the shotgun that was used in the disturbance. Court documents also show that Torres attempted to call the victim from jail and plead with her to drop the charges.
Torres is a Mexican citizen who was in the United States illegally at the time of the arrest.
“Violent, illegally armed abusers pose a profound danger to those closest to them, police, and the entire community,” said Zachary A. Myers, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana.
