A Tipton man was killed Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020 when his car was involved in a rear-end crash on the Muncie Bypass.

MUNCIE, Ind. — A man arrested for a deadly 2020 crash in Muncie was found guilty of reckless homicide.

Melvin Lee Weaver was also convicted on obstruction of justice and driving while suspended charges.

Weaver was arrested in July 2021 after a 10-month investigation into the crash.

According to police, Weaver was driving a Chevy Silverado Sept 26, 2020 as he came up on a red light at the McGalliard Road intersection on the Muncie Bypass.

An investigation found Weaver was traveling more than 90 miles per hour when he slammed into the back of a car stopped at a red light.

The driver of the stopped car, 28-year-old Matthew Adams, was killed and his wife Anna, 27, was seriously injured.

The Adams car then hit into another car injuring Karmen Harvey.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Matthew Adams. I am fully aware that nothing can bring Matthew back. However, hopefully this verdict can bring some form of comfort and a step towards closure," said Delaware county Prosecutor Eric Hoffman.

Police said Weaver had a suspended Indiana ID card at the time of the crash.
