INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) is investigating the first homicide of the year after a man was killed in a shooting early New Year's Day morning on the city's near north side.
IMPD officers responded to a report of a person shot in the 3100 block of Boulevard Place, near North Capitol Avenue and West 30th Street, shortly after 1 a.m. Jan. 1.
When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot.
Medics transported the victim, who was initially listed in critical condition, to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Tuesday morning, the Marion County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 40-year-old Bryan Foley.
According to a preliminary investigation, there was a fight among family members before the shooting took place.
While at the scene, officers detained a "person of interest," who was later released, pending further investigation.
