MARION, Ind. — An 18-year-old man from Marion has died after being shot in the stomach Thursday night.
According to a release from the Marion Police Department, shortly after 10 p.m. on Dec. 14, 18-year-old Willie Oxendine was taken to an emergency room with a gunshot wound.
Coincidentally, a Grant County Sheriff's Deputy was exiting the hospital at the same time of Oxendine's arrival and notified other officers of the situation.
Oxendine was transported to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne where he later succumbed to his injures.
Upon investigation, Marion police discovered the shooting might have happened in an apartment complex in the 3100 block of S. Washington Street. Police obtained a search warrant to search the apartment.
During the preliminary investigation, detectives learned three other men were inside the apartment with Oxendine at the time of the shooting. Police say one of the men was holding a handgun that discharged, striking Oxendine. The three men allegedly were the ones who transported Oxendine to the hospital.
