INDIANAPOLIS — A man has been sentenced for the 2023 deadly shooting of another man near the American Legion Mall in downtown Indianapolis.
Howard Moffitt was convicted with the "Habitual Offender Sentencing Enhancement" after a two-day jury trial in connection with the death of Anthony Drummer. On Aug. 7, 2024, he was sentenced to 60 years in prison for the crime.
"This conviction and the enhanced sentence affirm our commitment to justice on behalf of victims and sends a clear message that this level of violence will not be tolerated in our community," said Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears.

The shooting was reported around 6:45 a.m. July 20, 2023, near the intersection of Pennsylvania and Walnut streets.
Responding IMPD officers located a man, later identified as Drummer, who had been shot in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
While police were investigating, they claim Moffitt walked toward them with his hands up and saying he had shot Drummer. Moffitt allegedly told them the gun he used was in his backpack.
Moffitt also confessed to a witness immediately after the shooting, the prosecutor's office said.
Video obtained by police showed Moffitt in the area of the crime scene shortly after the shooting, the prosecutor's office said.
"Forensic testing confirmed the firearm in Moffitt's bag was the murder weapon," the prosecutor's office said in a statement.
