INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man was convicted of murder in the 2022 deadly shooting of another man on the city's east side.
Milton Porter was also found guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon after a two-day trial in the shooting death of Calvin Lawson Jr.
The shooting happened Friday, Oct. 14, 2022 in the 4500 block of East Washington Street, between South Sherman Drive and Emerson Avenue. Responding IMPD officers found Lawson Jr. with a gunshot wound to his neck.
The 32-year-old died at the hospital a few hours later.
According to the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, witnesses said Porter showed up to Lawson's apartment to fight, and when Lawson stepped outside, Porter shot him once and ran from the scene.
Witnesses identified Porter as the shooter, the prosecutor's office said.
Porter was taken into custody Oct. 17, 2022.
Online court records indicate Porter's sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 24.
