INDIANAPOLIS — A man has been charged with murder after allegedly confessing to his role in a west Indianapolis shooting that killed a man earlier this month.

According to online court records, Myron King was charged Oct. 21 with murder and unlawful carrying of a handgun with a prior conviction.

The shooting was reported around 2:45 p.m. Oct. 5 in the 1200 block of North Tibbs Avenue, near West 12th Street. Officers responding to an initial report of shots fired found 38-year-old Brandon Lewis in an alleyway with a gunshot wound/s. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to court documents, Lewis' girlfriend told detectives she and Lewis met a man near that intersection in a car, who offered "a taste of crack cocaine" and told them to call to make a purchase after they tried the drugs.

Hours later, the woman said, the man returned to the area and got into an argument with Lewis over not getting called. The man then shot Lewis, who fell to the ground. The man shot Lewis again in the head while he was on the ground, the woman said, before speeding off, according to court docs.

Detectives tracked the phone number of the man Lewis had been in contact with to King through a previous police report that included the same phone number. Body camera video of King from that previous police interaction matched the description Lewis' girlfriend gave police of the man that shot him.

Police also found surveillance video that captured both Lewis and his girlfriend interacting with the driver of a car and, later, that man pulling a gun and shooting him twice, as Lewis' girlfriend described.

On Oct. 17, detectives located that car in Brownsburg and arrested King near a home in Pittsboro.

According to court documents, King admitted to shooting a male two times before fleeing in his car and later changing his phone number. Police found a handgun while serving a search warrant at the Pittsboro home.

According to online court records, King has an initial hearing in the case scheduled for Oct. 23.
