Son charged with murder in 2023 death of his father at southeast Indianapolis apartment complex

Julian Parker, 27, was charged with murder in the death of 63-year-old Thomas Parker on Feb. 1 and arrested the next day, IMPD said.

INDIANAPOLIS — A man has been arrested and charged with murder in the November 2023 death of his father on Indianapolis' southeast side.

Julian Parker, 27, was charged with murder in the death of 63-year-old Thomas Parker on Feb. 1 and arrested the next day, IMPD said.

Around 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023, IMPD officers responded to an apartment complex in the 8600 block of Shadow Ridge Lane, near South Franklin Road and Southeastern Avenue, for a report of a deceased person. Officers located Thomas, "who was in the advanced stages of decomposition," IMPD said.

According to court documents, detectives learned Julian was being held at a hospital after he was found that same morning walking naked along the road near Southeastern Avenue and Franklin Road.

Court documents say officers stopped Julian and put him in handcuffs, but when a female officer arrived, Julian allegedly looked at her and said, "Females are the originators of all suffering."

According to court documents, Julian then tried to spit at and kick two female medics before he was placed on a gurney and taken to the hospital.

Detectives said they then spoke with Julian at the hospital, who allegedly said his dad had been dead for three to four weeks after Julian said he hit his dad in the head.

Court documents say Julian then told detectives he needed to be locked up because he is "homicidal and dangerous." He then allegedly told detectives he was going to use his dad's gun at Greenwood High School to "shoot all the females and any guy who is with one because females are manipulative."

Julian then allegedly told detectives that officers found him naked on the roadway earlier that morning because he had just raped several people. However, police were not able to confirm any rapes happened in the area, and authorities contacted Greenwood High School to advise administration of the shooting threat Julian made.

The Marion County Coroner's Office ruled Thomas' death a homicide on Dec. 7, 2023. Court documents say the coroner's office determined Thomas died from blunt force trauma to his head and torso.

According to court documents, Thomas reported Julian had physically assaulted him on multiple occasions, so the Center for At-Risk Elders (CARE) got involved.

Court documents say Julian was qualified for services through the Bureau of Developmental and Disability Services (BDDS), but placement has a two-year waiting period. According to court documents, Thomas asked CARE to have Julian stay with him until BDDS placement became available, to which CARE agreed in September 2022.

According to court documents, CARE's last visit to the home was Oct. 26, where Thomas allegedly reported that things were going well with Julian and he didn't have any concerns.

On Feb. 1, 2024, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office formally charged Julian with murder.

On Feb. 2, detectives located Julian in the area of West 38th Street and Interstate 465 and arrested him.

Online court records indicate Julian is scheduled for an initial court hearing at 10 a.m. Feb. 6.
