Man arrested in connection to deadly shooting on Indy's northeast side

The suspect was already on probation for being a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm and intimidation with the threat to commit a forcible felony.

INDIANAPOLIS — A man was arrested Monday in connection to a shooting that killed one person and injured another in July on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

According to court documents, just after midnight Monday, Aug. 5, police received information about the suspect in the July 13 shooting being at a gas station in the 3300 block of North Arlington Avenue, near East 34th Street.

Police were advised of what vehicle the suspect was driving and what he was wearing. With that information, officers went to the gas station and found the suspect. He was then taken into custody.

The original incident happened around 3:30 a.m. July 13 in the 4000 block of Edgemere Court, near 42nd Street and Millersville Road.

Police found a woman dead when they arrived on scene. The Marion County Coroner's Office later identified the victim as 25-year-old Nakyra La Shawn McGee.

Around the same time, IMPD East District officers responded to Community Hospital East on a report of a walk-in person shot.

When officers arrived, they learned a 44-year-old man was being treated for a gunshot wound. His condition was described as "stable."

IMPD said officers learned both incidents were connected.

Court documents say the suspect was already on probation for being a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm and intimidation with the threat to commit a forcible felony.

(NOTE: The video at the top of this story is a previous report on an 18-year-old man being arrested for the shooting death of a 16-year-old.)
