INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD arrested a 32-year-old man for his alleged role in a series of armed robberies and an attempted armed robbery on Indianapolis' north and east sides over the last few weeks. Three of the incidents occurred on Thanksgiving Day.

Javonte Smith, of Indianapolis, is facing charges of armed robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

In a statement posted on social media, IMPD said robbery detectives were notified of a robbery at a Kroger near East 16th Street and North Park Avenue on Dec. 1. At the scene, IMPD SWAT located the suspect car and detained Smith.

Evidence connected to the robbery, including a wig, was found in the car, according to court documents. Detectives also found a gun and thousands of dollars in cash.

The department said detectives believe Smith was also responsible for seven other robberies and an attempted robbery at multiple McDonald's, Family Dollar and Walmart locations on the north and east sides of Indianapolis, which occurred from Nov. 21 through Dec. 1.
