LEBANON, Ind. — A 15-year-old Lebanon boy is now recovering after a driver hit him with their car earlier this week.
It was Tuesday night when Michael Kellogg was heading back home from the gym on his bike when he was hit from behind, but the suspects didn't just leave him on the road.
"He had drove me home. And I guess I came in my back door and was, you know, screaming with my mom and at my mom and stuff, and telling her I just got hit by a truck and that they were outside. And she ran outside, and they weren't there," Michael said.
A parent drove Michael to the hospital, but his memory is fuzzy.
"The last thing I remember before getting hit is I had turned around because there's a car behind me on the road. I looked at it, and then I turned back around, " Michael said.
The crash happened on Camp Street, near State Road 39, in Lebanon on Nov. 5. Police are investigating the incident but don't have any suspects at this time.
"Not only did you hit a child and leave him for dead, how would you feel if that was your kid? What would you ... wouldn't you want somebody to call the police and take them to the hospital and make sure they're OK, not just leave them at someone's back door like a dog?" said Michael's mother, Chantel.
"It's hard to really process what she was saying because he was, I mean, he was screaming in the background," said his dad, Sydney. "I don't understand."
Michael said it still hurts to move around.
"It's been a little difficult getting dressed and stuff, and sometimes, like when it's cold out and I get shivers, all the places where I have road rash kind of, like, tense up and give me, like, a shooting pain throughout my shoulder and my back," Michael said.
Michael was working out at the gym to get in shape for wrestling, which he was going to start this year.
"I don't know yet, but by the looks of it, if my injuries aren't healed by time, I won't be able to wrestle this year," Michael said.
While his injuries can heal, the trauma can last a lifetime.
