LAWRENCE, Indiana — Police in Lawrence, as well as three families, are searching for answers after three people were in killed in a shooting in Lawrence Friday evening.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired about 7:15 p.m. April 12 at the Jamestowne Apartment Community in the 4400 block of Duxbury Lane, near 42nd Street and North Post Road.
When they arrived, they found three people with gunshot wounds who died at the scene:
- Spencer Lawson, 27, from Indianapolis
- Aaliyah Wortman, 19, from Marion
- Londyn Coleman, 19, from Warsaw
Lawson's family said everyone called him "Spinner." His mom said she didn't know why her son would be at the east side apartments, and the two women who also died were in a car with Lawson when the shooting happened.
Coleman's younger brother, Lonzo Sanders, spoke about the passing of his sister and her friend.
"When they're together, they're the life of the party, man. When they together and step into the room, everybody's eyes brighten up. The light of the show," Sanders said. "Losing her was like losing a big part of my heart."
13News spoke with a woman, who lives at the apartment complex, through a translator app. She said she heard the shots from inside her apartment, then hid with her kids.
Police scanner traffic indicated police are looking for two male suspects.
Lawrence police impounded a Chevy Impala from the crime scene, but police have not announced any arrests or suspect descriptions.
"Once again, we're on the scene of a senseless crime. The chief, the deputy chiefs and myself in the department in the city as a whole — this is unacceptable, " said Capt. Tracey Cantrell, of the Lawrence Police Department.
One resident told 13News neither the victims nor the suspects lived at the apartment complex.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Lawrence Police Department at 317-545-7575 or contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
