JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. — A Lawrence Police Department officer was arrested on a preliminary domestic battery charge Thursday in Greenwood.
Shortly before noon May 2, Johnson County Sheriff's Office deputies responded the 3800 block of Clubhouse Court, near West County Line Road and South Meridian Street, for a report of a domestic dispute.
"During the course of the investigation, the deputies on the scene determined that they had probable cause that a battery had occurred," Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess said in a statement.
Joshua J. Wise, 43, was arrested on a preliminary charge of domestic battery and transported to the Johnson County Jail.
The sheriff's office said Wise is an officer with the Lawrence Police Department, which "was briefed on the situation." He was in the jail Friday morning and expected to be released in the afternoon.
The Johnson County Prosecutor's Office will review the case and make the decision on formal charges.
The Lawrence Police Department issued the following statement on Wise's arrest:
"On May 2, 2024, Patrolman Jose Wise, was involved in a domestic altercation that resulted in his arrest. The Lawrence Police Department takes any allegations of misconduct seriously and holds its officers to the highest standards of professionalism and ethical behavior.
Upon learning of the incident, immediate action was taken by the department. Officer Wise has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation. The department is committed to ensuring that the investigation is thorough and transparent. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is the investigating department for this incident.
