DAYTON, Indiana — A 36-year-old Lafayette man has been arrested after allegedly driving to pick up his children from school with a blood alcohol level more than four times the legal limit.
According to a press release from the Dayton Police Department, around 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 7, police received a call about a reckless driver in the student pickup lane at Dayton Elementary School.
Police then saw a silver Kia Sorento with a male driver matching the description fail to stay in his lane while traveling on State Road 38. Officers then pulled the driver over in the 6800 block of State Road 38.
The driver appeared visibly drunk, according to police, and registered a blood alcohol content of .34, which is more than four times the legal limit. His two children were reportedly in the car with him at the time of his arrest.
Police arrested the man on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and child neglect. Both of the children were then turned over to their mother.
